Marcus Hearn, the Hammer Studios historian who previously served up the lavishly-illustrated The Hammer Story, Hammer Glamour, and The Art of Hammer,on September 27th releases his latest peek inside the famous British horror studio with The Hammer Vault: Treasures from the Archive of Hammer Films. What does it offer that he hasn’t already uncovered in his previous books? “Original correspondence, lobby cards, script pages, and rare photographs alongside a commentary from the people who made some of the company’s greatest films.” Naturally, I have it pre-ordered, but I also collect Hammer lobby cards and stills, so I’m a bit biased. Intriguingly, the book will also feature “pre-production artwork, and poster artwork from films that were never made,” so here’s hoping there’s a section on the company’s aborted, and insane-sounding, Vampirella adaptation. (You can pre-order using the link above.)
- Welcome to the theater. Mind the leaking roof.
